Waxeater/JabberJosh

June 23, 09
Waxeater/JabberJosh
Replay Lounge
Notes:
You have the show on January 21 of this year to thank for making me get off my ass and post these. That day JabberJosh played The Replay with a band called Bolth, Bolth includes members of Waxeater, thus reminded me that I had recorded Waxeater and JabberJosh playing a show together 6 months ago. Well, after revisiting some of those recordings, I decided I need to revisit this blog. I'm pretty happy all and all with these recordings. As always, they peaked a bit, and you can hear at parts of the show that the mic in my laptop is starting to go downhill (it sound like wind in the background, and is mainly on the JabberJosh set).

JabberJosh: The band consists of two brothers Sam and Will Gunnerson, and after seeing them play together for so long, I swear those two can read each others minds. Sam always has the energy of ten people while on stage, thrashing everywhere, yet sill playing and sing as if that's all he was born to do. Will is one of the (if not the) solidest, heaviest hitters in town. That kids is always on point, and allot of fun to watch play. I was also running sound that night and it was the first time I put slap-back on Sam's vocals, I love how he sound will that little addition.

Waxeater: This set I really liked. I had not heard them before this beautiful June night. As I expect of any band that plays with JabberJosh; they were damn good. Waxeater had awesome energy on stage and a good sense of humor. I really hope I get to catch them again sometime soon.

Hope For A Golden Summer

March 24, 2009
Hope For A Golden Summer / Drakkar Sauna
Love Garden Records
Notes:
I obviously have not updated this in a long time. There is two good reasons for me allowing this to happen. One: I got a day job awhile back and that kind of ate up allot of the free time I had when I started this blog. Two: The mic in my MacBook died. Making it hard for me to record bands, beings I had done all these recordings with the internal mic on the MacBook.
Well to the point. I still have a bunch of recordings I did a while back, and I am
now going to try to take the time, over the next few weeks, to mix and post these old recordings.

Now for the show at hand; I unfortunately was having some trouble with my laptop that evening, I did record Drakkar Sauna but it did not turn out at all, so I have chosen leave it off this post altogether. Hope For A Golden Summer was amazing that evening though, and I was at least able to capture the beginning of their set. What I have here is the first 9 mins. of what they played. It's only two songs, but I'm really stoked that I could get at least that much. Also between the songs they pay the most adorable complement to the youngest member of the audience. I hope you enjoy this, and expect my next post shortly featuring Waxeater and Jabber Josh from a show I was able to record in June of last year.

Spook Lights/NASCAR

April 1, 2009
Spook Lights/NASCAR
Replay Lounge
Notes:
NASCAR: A redneck sport of which I find to be pointless, deafening, and quite boring. If it was not for the fact that this sports origin came from bootlegs in the 20s-30s, I would a fan of completely destroying any evidence that it ever existed. The problem with that is that would mean the band NASCAR would be wiped from the History books, this would be bad. This recording is there second show and it shows. Not the way one would think for a bands second show, this band was tight and very much on point with each other. They just liked to kill a good three to five minutes between each song, but hey worse things have happen, and as the old saying goes "Good thing come to those who wait." These songs are well worth the wait.

Spook Lights: This recording is a bit odd, all and all it sounds pretty good but the instruments levels are not quite prefect. This being their first show with the addition of a bass player, perfection is not expected or (in my opionin) wanted. Still the recordings are very listen able and beings this is one of the better bands in Lawrence, The Spook Lights delivered an awesome and really fun show.

Crystal Stilts/Woods

Crystal Stilts/Woods
Replay Lounge
Notes:
This is the first show I ever recorded and it does sound quite good being I had no idea whatsoever what I was doing. Woods opened the show and I forgot to start the recording till about half way through there set, opps. They killed that night though. I wish I had the whole set. Crystal Stilts were down a man at this show, but still played amazingly.

Mansion

March 30,2009
Mansion
@ The Picador (Iowa City)
Notes:
Mansion, stoner metal, Lawrence KS style. They opened for Torche in Iowa City at the Picador and that being my old stopping grounds, I caught a ride up with them. This was Mansion's 2nd show and it turns out that they know a song called "Night Full of Kicks" by a band named Floor. Floor is Steve Brooks old band, Steve's new band is called Torche. So to the point, he sings "Night Full of Kicks" with Mansion as his backing band.
This was the loudest show I have recorded to date and if I am going to continue recording loud shows, it is pretty evident that I will need to to get a different mic set up. I had the gain all the way down and you can still hear peaking and crackling in the recording. Hopefully you can still enjoy it. I know I can.

This Is My Condition/Tracer Face

March 28, 2009
This Is My Condition/Tracer Face
@ Replay Lounge
Notes:
It seems that most of my notes are going to be just me apologizing because I really don't know what the hell I'm doing, this is just the case with Tracer Face recordings. This was their first show and I had the gain up a bit to high so there are times that it kind of sound like ass, sorry... Not really that sorry. All in all I do feel like this is what a band first show should be like. Fronted by Blood On the Wall's voice, with the bass of Coat Party and do-it-all-man Charley Downey on drums, I'm pretty excited to see them grow together and produce more awesomeness.

This Is My Condition Feat. Dan Kozak; I'm pretty happy with how this recording turned out, and if you've never seen TIMC your going to think I'm crazy. The recordings are muddled, you can't really hear the vocals, the snare and cymbals are in your face the whole time your listening and Dan Kozak (who plays all the amazing horns you'll hear) sounds kind of like he is playing in the other room. The reason I'm happy is because is because I've seen TIMC upwards of 10 times and that of which I described is what you get at the show. One man sitting behind a drum set with a guitar strapped to his lap, freaking out creating for you one of the best show experiences you'll ever have. That is just what he does.

Rad Racket/Grandchildren

March 25, 2009
Sleepy Sun/Rad Racket/Grandchildren
@ Replay Lounge
Notes:
Sleepy Sun's recording did not turn out due to a user error... My bad. If you would still like to hear it contact me I'll clean it up the best I can.

Both Rad Racket and Grandchildren's recordings turned out good but some slight peaking/distorting at times but they are still very listenable. I was also running sound at this show so I was preoccupied with that and missed the first Grandchildren song, opps.

Oh and I'm still working on actually posting steaming file right now, You can download the Mp3 here though for now.
